Largest Aquarium for Fishes..

Whale shark is the biggest fish in the whole world. Therefore, there must be a place for Whale sharks.. It could be very harmful for people to have these whale sharks roaming around seawater.

The largest aquarium in the whole world can be found in Atlanta, Georgia at Pemberton Place.. This aquarium is called " Georgia Aquarium". It was opened last 2005 of November. It has been one of the tourist destination in Georgia where people find it fascinating while observing the great sea creature such as whale sharks. It has more than 8.1 million US gallons(31,000 m³) of marine and fresh water housing more than 100,000 animals of 500 different species. The aquarium's notable specimens include four young whale sharks, three beluga whales and manta rays.
Georgia Aquarium contains between 100,000 and 120,000 fish and other sea creatures, representing more than five hundred species.
It is the only institution outside of Asia to house whale sharks. The sharks are kept in a 6.3 million gallon (24,000 m³) tank, and the aquarium was actually designed around the whale shark exhibit.

New Discovered Fish in the World..

Psychedelic Fish

Many species of fishes were already discovered and have been known by everyone of us.. But, let me introduce to you the newly discovered fish in the world which found in the Ambon Island of Indonesia. This fish has tan- and peach-colored zebra-striping, and rippling folds of skin that obscure its fins, making it look like a glass sculpture that Dale Chihuly might have dreamed up. But far from being hard and brittle like glass, the bodies of these fist-sized fish are soft and pliable enough to slip and slide into narrow crevices of coral reefs. It's probably part of the reason that they've typically gone unnoticed -- until now.

The BIGGEST fish in the whole world..

Did you know what's the biggest fish in the world? Have you seen it? or even dreamed of diving with these giant creature in the sea? Let's talk about it..

The world's biggest fish is the Whale shark(Rhincodon typus)

They are huge and streamlined, and have a beautiful coloration pattern on their back and sides that is made up of light spots and stripes over a dark gray, blue or brown background.

Its mouth is at the very front of its head (not on the underside of the head like in most sharks). It has a wide, flat head, a rounded snout, small eyes, 5 very large gill slits, 2 dorsal fins (on its back) and 2 pectoral fins (on its sides). The spiracle (a vestigial first gill slit used for breathing when the shark is resting on the sea floor) is located just behind the shark's eye. Its tail has a top fin much larger than the lower fin.Whale sharks have about 300 rows of tiny teeth, totaling about 27,000 teeth, but they are not thought to play a role in feeding.

Whale sharks are ovoviviparous. The eggs remain in the body and the females give birth to live young which are 40 to 60 centimetres (16 to 24 in) long. It is believed that they reach sexual maturity at around 30 years and the life span is an estimated 70 to 100 years.

On March 7, 2009, marine scientists in the Philippines discovered what is believed to be the smallest living specimen of the whale shark. Measuring 15 inches (380 mm) in length, about the length of a man's forearm, the young shark was found with its tail tied to a stake at a beach in Pilar, Philippines, and was released into the wild.

The whale shark is a widespread animal, and occurs in warmer temperate and tropical waters. It is found in the pelagic zone in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.
They feed by filtering small organisms, such as plankton, crustaceans, tiny fish, and occasionally larger fish and squid. Unlike the basking shark, which moves water through its mouth by slowly swimming forward, the whale shark feeds by opening its mouth and sucking in water, which then passes through the gills. Along the way, organisms get trapped in the shark's dermal denticles (small, tooth-like structures) and the pharynx, which is a rake-like structure. A whale shark can filter over 1,500 gallons of water.

I can't just imagine how big and great the whale shark is. Have you tried meeting underwater the biggest fish? What would you do if it's diving with you?

-You should not be panic because these species, despite its size, does not pose significant danger to humans.Whale sharks serve as an example when educating the public about the popular misconceptions of sharks as "man-eaters". They are actually quite gentle and can play with divers. Divers and snorkelers can swim with this giant fish without risk apart from unintentional blows from the shark's large tail fin.

What is Fishery ?

We have always heard the word "fishery" and what comes first in our mind is all about fishes. Yes it's true but we should know that fishery is not only talks about fish and its types itself but also it talks on other species or creatures on water either cultivated or not. These species may be fresh water fish, marine fishes and etc. It has been cultivated so as to meet the needs of the people and to increase economic stability of the society.

What is a the difference between "Fisheries" and " Fishery"?

Fisheries is a science which deals with the study of conservation, propagation, utilization of fish, and other fishery products, their fishing ground and the right to use such products. On the other hand, Fishery is the act of catching, preserving, culturing fish and other fishery products.(SEAFDEC Journals)

Generally, a fishery is an entity engaged in raising and/or harvesting fish, which is determined by some authority to be a fishery. According to the FAQ, a fishery is typically defined in terms of the "people involved, species or type of fish, area of water or seabed, method of fishing, class of boats, purpose of the activities or a combination of the foregoing features".In particular, the term is often applied to a combination of fish and;"fishers in a region, the latter fishing for similar species with similar gear types.

A fishery may involve the capture of wild fish or raising fish through fish farming or aquaculture. Directly or indirectly, the livelihood of over 500 million people in developing countries depends on fisheries and aquaculture.

The term "fish"

  • In biology – the term fish is most strictly used to describe any animal with a backbone that has gills throughout life and has limbs, if any, in the shape of fins. Many types of aquatic animals commonly referred to as fish are not fish in this strict sense; examples include shellfish, cuttlefish, starfish, crayfish and jellyfish. In earlier times, even biologists did not make a distinction - sixteenth century natural historians classified also
